The Partnership was delighted to host The Chief Executive of Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and Regional Director of Natural England and their staff recently, and briefed them on the works that have been carried out in the past 3 years from the original Welsh Government Nature Fund and the future works to be carried out under the SMS Fund.
The briefing took place just a week before the Partnership was given the green light to start the SMS 3 Year conservation and enhancement programme of works. Natural England and NRW are both key Partners in this project.
The picture shows the initial results of last years ‘Grip Blocking’ activity carried out by Welsh Water, Dwr Cymru and the Partnership by the Grwyne Fawr Reservior, helping to stop run off into the reservoir and therefore saving money for the consumer and Welsh Water from the large costs of cleaning upland water before it goes into the distribution system. These works also provide enhanced habitat.
This work is taking place all over the Black Mountains in the coming years.
