The Partnership promotes safe, sustainable visitation in the Black Mountains as part of a broader education and awareness-raising initiative. Forged out of the Sustainable Management Scheme Project’s Mountain and Moorland Ambassador Scheme, our Black Mountains Ambassador Network sees over 50 local businesses and tourism working in Partnership with us to share knowledge, skills and experience, support safe, sustainable visitation in the Black Mountains and helping to shape the future of the Partnership as a truly collaborative, landscape-scale community based one.
Here, our Black Mountains Ambassador Coordinator, Dorian Thomas, Owner of Trigpoint Adventures, explains more about the network, his role and the role of Ambassadors
I am a passionate Mountain Leader whose first visit to the Lake District over 30 years ago inspired a lifetime of adventure. I believe the attraction of British mountains is the solitude and wilderness, combined with the history and stories surrounding these places. Based in a little village just outside the Black Mountains, I have spent hundreds of hours exploring the area, seeking out those hidden gems and stories before they are forgotten.
Trigpoint Adventures, created in 2017, aims to help people enjoy the great outdoors safely. I provide bespoke hiking experiences for groups or individuals and navigation training, including Hill and Mountain Skills Courses on behalf of Mountain Training in the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains.
In 2019, having completed the Mountain & Moorland Ambassador Course, I got involved with the Black Mountains Land Use Partnership, and the development of my current role as the representative for the Ambassadors, ensuring key messages and information flows between both networks.
Continued involvement in the Partnership is important so that we, as an Ambassador Network working in the tourism industry, have a total understanding of the current pressures and issues facing the upland area the Partnership covers so that we can talk with authority on these to our customers and potential visitors of the area.
If you would like to join the Ambassador network or to speak to Dorian to find out more, please contact him via email
